Mr. Coffee Water Filter Discs: Fit, Interval and Cost
Mr. Coffee uses a small round charcoal disc, part 113035-001-000, that sits in a holder in the reservoir. It is rated for roughly a month or 30 tank fills, whichever comes first. Newer models use a taller cartridge instead of a disc - check which holder your machine has before ordering, because they do not interchange.

OEM or aftermarket?
The Mr. Coffee charcoal disc is one of the cheapest parts on any coffee maker and one of the most often left in far too long. It is also one of two formats Mr. Coffee has used, which is where the ordering mistakes come from.
Disc or cartridge – check the tank
Open the reservoir and look at the holder. The classic format is a small flat round disc, part 113035-001-000, that clips into a shallow cage. Newer machines use a taller cartridge that pushes onto a post instead. They are not interchangeable and neither will sit properly in the other’s holder.
If there is no holder in the tank at all, your machine was not built to take a filter. That is not a fault, and the fix is simply to fill the tank with filtered water.
The interval is shorter than people think
Around a month, or thirty tank fills. Charcoal works by adsorption, which means it fills up: once the surface is saturated it stops helping and starts holding onto what it has already taken in. A disc left in for six months is doing less than nothing.
At a few dollars a disc in a twelve-pack, this is not a part worth economising on. Buy the multi-pack and change it when the month is up.
What the filter does not do
It does not replace descaling. This is the single most common misunderstanding about charcoal filters on drip machines. The disc improves taste and takes some of the mineral load out, but scale still forms in the boiler and still needs dissolving on a schedule. It also will not fix bad-tasting coffee that comes from a dirty brew basket. If a new disc has not changed anything, the problem is old coffee oil, not water.
Discs and cartridges that fit
Match the format to your holder. Aftermarket discs are fine here – this is a consumable with no pressure, heat or mains voltage involved, so there is no safety argument for paying the OEM premium.
