Privacy Policy

The short version: BrewerRepair runs no analytics, no advertising network, and no tracking pixels. We do not ask you to create an account, we do not run comments, and we do not have a mailing list. There is almost nothing about you for us to hold, and that is deliberate.

This page explains exactly what does happen when you read a page here, including the one place where a third party — Amazon — does see something about you.

What we do not do

It is quicker to state the absences, because they cover most of what a privacy policy normally has to explain:

• No analytics. There is no Google Analytics, no Tag Manager, no Plausible, no Matomo. We do not measure page views per visitor.
• No advertising. No ad network, no display ads, no retargeting, no remarketing lists.
• No tracking pixels from social platforms or anywhere else.
• No accounts, no comments, no mailing list. Nothing on this site asks you to identify yourself.
• No selling or sharing of personal data, because there is none to sell.

You can verify most of this yourself: open your browser’s developer tools, load any page here, and look at the network tab. The only requests that leave this domain go to Amazon, for the reasons below.

Server logs

Like essentially every website, the server that hosts BrewerRepair records standard access logs: the IP address making the request, the page requested, the time, the browser’s user-agent string, and the referring page if your browser sends one. These logs exist so the site can be kept online and secure — diagnosing errors, identifying abusive traffic, and confirming that pages are actually being served.

They are not linked to any identity, not used to build a profile, and not shared. They rotate and are overwritten in the ordinary course of server operation.

Cookies

Loading a page on this site sets no cookies. We do not run a cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to.

WordPress, which this site runs on, sets cookies in two situations that do not apply to ordinary readers: when someone logs in to the administration area, and when someone posts a comment. Comments are disabled site-wide, and only the site’s own editors log in.

Amazon links and product images

This is the one place a third party is involved, so it deserves plain language.

We are an Amazon Associate, and pages that recommend a part contain links to Amazon. Product photographs on those pages are also served directly from Amazon’s own image servers (m.media-amazon.com and images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com) rather than copied onto our server. Two consequences follow:

• Loading a page with product images means Amazon’s servers receive a request from your browser, which necessarily includes your IP address and user-agent, the same as any image loaded from any third party.
• Clicking through to Amazon puts you on Amazon’s site under their privacy policy, not ours. Amazon sets its own cookies at that point, including the one that attributes a purchase to us. We never see who clicked, what you looked at, or what you bought — our reporting shows quantities of items sold, not people.

If you would rather not load Amazon’s images, a content blocker will stop them and the rest of the page still works. What we earn from those links, and how it does and does not affect what we recommend, is set out in full on our affiliate disclosure.

Search

The search box submits to this site only. Your search terms appear in the page URL and therefore in the server logs described above. They are not sent anywhere else and not associated with you.

Your rights

Readers in the EU and UK have rights under the GDPR, and California residents have rights under the CCPA, to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of personal data, and to object to its sale. We mention this for completeness rather than as a formality: because we hold no personal data beyond transient server logs, in practice there is nothing for us to retrieve or erase.

If you believe we hold something about you and want it removed, write to us and we will look at the logs and confirm what is there. Contact details are on our contact page.

Children

This site is aimed at adults repairing household appliances and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, children included.

Changes to this policy

If we ever add analytics, a mailing list, or anything else that touches reader data, this page will be updated before that change goes live, and the date at the top will change with it. A privacy policy that quietly falls out of step with the site is worse than none, so we treat the date as part of the promise.
