Cuisinart Burr Grinder Replacement: DGB-2CBM, DBM-8 and What Actually Wears Out
Three different Cuisinart parts get called a burr grinder. The DBM-8GC is the grind chamber with lid for the DBM-8 Supreme Grind - the part that actually cracks. The DGB-2CBM is a complete burr mill assembly and fits the DGB-2 only. The DGB-500 brewer uses a third, non-interchangeable grinder module. Match the machine model before ordering, because none of the three swap.
Does it fit your machine?
Match your model number exactly — the code on the rating label, not the name on the front of the machine.
| Model | Notes |
|---|---|
| Cuisinart DGB-2 | DGB-2CBM complete burr mill assembly. Fits this model only. |
| Cuisinart DBM-8 Supreme Grind | DBM-8GC grind chamber with lid - the part that actually cracks. |
| Cuisinart DGB-500 | Uses its own grinder module, referenced A98I-DGB-500GRD. Not interchangeable with the DGB-2. |

OEM or aftermarket?
Cuisinart grind-and-brew machines fail in a predictable way, and it is almost never the burrs themselves. The three parts that come up again and again are the grind chamber with lid on the DBM-8 standalone grinder, the burr mill assembly on the DGB-2, and the grinder module inside the DGB-500 brewer. Knowing which of the three you have saves buying the wrong one.
DBM-8: the chamber cracks, not the burr
On the DBM-8 Supreme Grind the part people replace is the DBM-8GC grind chamber with its lid. It is a plastic cup that sits under the burr and it cracks around the collar where it locks in, usually after a few years of being twisted on and off. The burrs underneath are steel and typically outlive the machine.
Symptom that tells you it is the chamber and not the grinder: grounds escaping around the base during the grind, or the grinder refusing to start because the lid switch is no longer being closed properly by a chamber that no longer seats flat.
DGB-2: the burr mill assembly is one unit
The DGB-2CBM is sold as a complete burr mill assembly and fits the DGB-2 only. Cuisinart does not break this down into individual burrs – you replace the module. That is why it costs several times what a grind chamber does, and why it is worth confirming your fault really is the grinder before ordering.
DGB-500: a different part again
The DGB-500 grind-and-brew uses its own grinder assembly, listed against the A98I-DGB-500GRD reference. It is not interchangeable with the DGB-2 module despite both being called a burr grinder in the manual.
Before you buy the assembly
A Cuisinart grinder that runs but produces almost nothing is usually clogged rather than worn. Stale oil sets like varnish between the burr and the chute, and it looks exactly like a dead grinder. Strip and brush the chute first – it costs nothing and it fixes this more often than a new assembly does.
If the motor hums but the burr does not turn, that is a genuine assembly failure and the module is the fix.
This is a closer call than most machines. Cuisinart Grind & Brew: repair or replace shows where the line falls.

Questions about this part
My grinder runs but barely any coffee comes out - do I need a new burr set?
Usually not. Stale coffee oil sets like varnish between the burr and the chute and mimics a dead grinder exactly. Strip and brush the chute first. If the motor hums and the burr does not turn at all, that is a real assembly failure.
Will the DGB-2CBM fit my DGB-500?
No. Cuisinart lists them as separate assemblies and they are not interchangeable, even though both are described as a burr grinder in the manuals. Check the model number on the base plate.
Why is the DGB-2 part so much more expensive than the DBM-8 one?
Because it is a complete burr mill module, not a single component. Cuisinart does not sell the DGB-2 burrs separately, so the assembly is the only route.
Grounds are escaping around the base of my DBM-8. Which part is that?
The DBM-8GC grind chamber. It cracks around the locking collar from repeated twisting, and once it no longer seats flat it both leaks grounds and stops closing the lid switch reliably.
