Cuisinart Carafe Replacement: 12-Cup, 14-Cup or Thermal

In short

Match the DCC code from the sticker under the brewer. The 12-cup and 14-cup pots are different parts, and thermal machines cannot take a glass carafe at all.

Does it fit your machine?

Match your model number exactly — the code on the rating label, not the name on the front of the machine.

Models this part fits
Model Notes
DCC-1200 series 12-cup glass carafe
DCC-2200 series 14-cup glass carafe
Thermal DCC / DGB models Thermal carafe only, no glass option

Your model is not on this list. Do not assume it fits — send us the model number and we will check it.

OEM or aftermarket?

Aftermarket is fine here Provided the dimensions match exactly. Check the critical size above against the old part before ordering — parts that look identical in photos frequently are not.

Cuisinart makes this easier than most brands because the replacement pots are usually sold under the machine’s own model code – DCC-1200PRC for the 12-cup, DCC-2200 for the 14-cup, and so on. Find the DCC number and the decision is made for you.

Where the model code lives

On the sticker underneath the brewer, and often moulded into the plastic collar of the old carafe. It looks like DCC-1200 or DCC-2200. The number after DCC is the machine family; the suffix on the carafe part (PRC and similar) just identifies it as the replacement pot.

12-cup and 14-cup are different pots

They look similar on a listing photo and they are not interchangeable. The 14-cup is taller and its lid geometry differs, so a 12-cup pot in a 14-cup machine sits low and the brew-through lid misses the basket outlet. Measure the height of the old pot if the code has worn away.

Glass or thermal

Thermal-carafe Cuisinarts (the DGB and DCC thermal variants) do not have a warming plate at all – the pot itself keeps the coffee hot. That means:

  • You cannot fit a glass carafe to a thermal machine, because there is nothing to keep it warm.
  • Thermal replacements cost noticeably more, often two to three times a glass pot.
  • A thermal carafe that no longer holds heat has usually lost its vacuum. That is not repairable and the pot is the part.

Before ordering, rule out the lid

If coffee overflows the basket, the lid is not seating and the drip-stop stays shut – a new carafe will not fix it unless the lid came with it. If coffee goes cold quickly on a glass model, check the pot sits flat on the warming plate before blaming either part.

While you are at it, a fresh charcoal water filter is a two-dollar improvement that most people skip.

Matching the DCC code

Cuisinart names its replacement carafes after the machine they belong to — DCC-1200PRC for the 12-cup, DCC-2200 for the 14-cup, and so on. Find the DCC number on the sticker under the brewer, or moulded into the collar of the old pot, and the decision is already made.

The suffix on the part number (PRC and similar) just marks it as the replacement component rather than a different pot.

12-cup and 14-cup, side by side

They look near-identical in listing photos and they are not interchangeable. The 14-cup is taller, and the extra height changes where the lid sits relative to the basket outlet. Fit a 12-cup pot to a 14-cup machine and the brew-through slot sits below the outlet — coffee runs down the outside of the carafe onto the plate.

If the code has worn away, measure the height of the old pot. That single measurement separates the two families reliably.

Thermal machines are a third category

Thermal-carafe Cuisinarts have no warming plate. The flask does the work, which has three consequences worth knowing:

  • A glass carafe cannot be substituted — there is nothing to keep it warm.
  • Thermal replacements cost two to three times a glass pot.
  • A flask that no longer holds heat has lost its vacuum, and no amount of cleaning restores it. The flask is the part.

Before you order, rule out the lid

Two faults get blamed on carafes and are not:

  1. Basket overflow. The lid is not seating, so the drip-stop valve stays shut. Check the lid before buying a pot, and check whether your replacement includes one.
  2. Coffee cooling quickly on a glass model. Look at whether the pot sits flat on the plate. A warped base or a plate crusted with old coffee breaks the thermal contact.

Care

Hand wash in warm soapy water with a bottle brush, and let the pot cool first. Avoid the dishwasher — repeated cycles loosen the handle bond, and a handle that lets go while the pot is full is the failure nobody plans for. Switch the warming plate off as soon as the carafe is empty.

While you are at it, a fresh charcoal water filter costs about a dollar and does more for the taste than a new pot will.

Questions about this part

Where do I find my Cuisinart model code?

On the sticker under the brewer, and often moulded into the collar of the old carafe.

Is the 12-cup carafe the same as the 14-cup?

No. The 14-cup is taller and the lid geometry differs, so the brew-through lid will not line up.

Can I use a glass carafe on a thermal Cuisinart?

No. Thermal machines have no warming plate - the carafe itself does the job.

My thermal carafe stopped keeping coffee hot. Can it be fixed?

No. It has lost its vacuum seal, and that is not repairable.
