Keurig K-Duo Carafe Replacement: Three Models That Look Identical

In short

The K-Duo, K-Duo Essentials and K-Duo 5100 take carafes that look the same and are not interchangeable. Sellers say so in their own listing titles - several carry an explicit NOT COMPATIBLE warning. Read the model code on the base of the brewer before ordering, not the name on the front.

Does it fit your machine?

Match your model number exactly — the code on the rating label, not the name on the front of the machine.

K-Duo (base model) Sold as fitting K-Duo and K-Duo Essentials together. Confirm the listing names your exact model.
K-Duo Essentials Same carafe as the base K-Duo on most listings.
K-Duo Essentials 5000 / 5500 Listed separately by several sellers - check the number on the base.
K-Duo 5100 Has its own carafe listing. Several 5100 carafes state they do NOT fit the base K-Duo.
K-Duo Plus Thermal carafe, not glass - a glass carafe will not substitute.

OEM or aftermarket?

Aftermarket is fine here Provided the dimensions match exactly. Check the critical size above against the old part before ordering — parts that look identical in photos frequently are not.

Keurig sells several machines called K-Duo, and they do not all take the same carafe. That is the whole problem with this part, and it is why sellers put warnings in their own listing titles — more than one 12-cup replacement on Amazon carries an explicit not compatible with line.

Buy on the model code from the base of the brewer, not on the words printed on the front.

Why three carafes look identical

All of them are 12-cup glass, roughly 60 oz, with a black handle and a brew-through lid. Side by side in photographs they are indistinguishable. What differs is the lid catch and the spout profile, and those are the two things that decide whether the machine brews cleanly or runs coffee down the outside of the jug.

The two failures people report

  • Coffee runs down the outside. The carafe seats but the lid channel does not line up with the spout. Almost always a carafe from the wrong K-Duo variant.
  • The carafe side will not brew at all. The machine checks the carafe is present and correctly positioned before it will run that side. A universal jug that does not trip the sensor leaves you with a single-serve-only brewer.

Neither is a fault in the machine, and neither is fixed by pushing harder.

Find the model before you order

Turn the brewer round and read the rating label on the base. You are looking for K-Duo, K-Duo Essentials, or a number — 5000, 5100, 5500. Then buy a carafe whose listing names that exact thing.

If the listing does not name your model, treat that as a no rather than an assumption. The model number guide covers where the label sits on each range.

Glass and thermal do not swap

The K-Duo Plus ships with a thermal carafe. A glass carafe is not a substitute for it — different height, different lid mechanism, and the machine is expecting the thermal unit.

While the carafe is out

A K-Duo runs both sides through one pump, so if the carafe side has also slowed down, that is scale rather than the jug. Descaling a K-Duo has to go through the pod side and the carafe side, and half-descaling it is the most common reason it stays slow.

Carafes that fit

Buy the one that names your model. Prices move, so treat these as a guide.

Questions about this part

Why are there so many different K-Duo carafes?

Because Keurig shipped several K-Duo variants with different carafe geometry while keeping the name. The lid catch and the spout profile differ enough that a carafe from one will not seat and seal on another, even though both are 12-cup glass and look the same in photographs.

How do I find my exact model?

Turn the brewer round and read the rating label on the base or the back. That gives you K-Duo, K-Duo Essentials, or a number such as 5000, 5100 or 5500. The name printed on the front of the machine is not specific enough to order from.

The carafe fits but coffee runs down the outside.

That is the lid, not the carafe. The lid has to sit at the right angle for the brew-through channel to line up with the spout. A lid from a different K-Duo variant seats but does not align, and the result is exactly this.

Can I use a universal 12-cup carafe?

Sometimes it will physically sit on the plate, but the K-Duo needs the carafe present and correctly positioned for the carafe side to brew at all. A universal that does not trip the sensor leaves you with a machine that will only make single cups.

Is an OEM Keurig carafe available?

Keurig sells carafes through its own parts channel rather than through Amazon, so what you will find here is aftermarket. For a $23 glass jug that is usually the right trade - just buy the one that names your model.

Mine cracked after a few months.

Thermal shock is the usual cause: cold water into a hot carafe, or a hot carafe onto a wet cold surface. Let it cool before rinsing, and do not put a hot glass carafe down on a stone worktop.
